Mihdalovi Tistechka (Almond Crescent Cookies)
Ukrainian cookies and cakes are a part of holidays and celebrations and often feature ingredients such as honey, apples, cherries, almonds and curd cheese. Try baking these traditional almond cookies - a simple yet delicious recipe - to enjoy for an upcoming gathering or with afternoon tea.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup butter
- ¾ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup chopped, blanched almonds
- 2 cups flour
INSTRUCTIONS
- With an electric mixer, combine butter, sugar, water, vanilla, and salt.
- Fold in the flour and pecans.
- Refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Shape small pieces of dough into crescents and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake until delicate brown, about 12-15 minutes.
- Dip into powdered sugar while still slightly warm.

The artists of Studio Incamminati and Rowan University’s documentary team collaborated to create an artistic storytelling series, “What We Face”, featuring Ukrainian refugees resettled in the Philadelphia area. The artists painted portraits of the refugees while the documentary team interviewed them and recorded their stories.
